Brainstorming!

Notes

-grab the audience's attention
-use multiply different angles, don't switch angles too often or not enough
-try not to use screens that turn to black
-try and vary lighting as well, or use it to impact the opening
-think about slowing things down or speeding things up
-if using font, match to theme of opening
-don't be too shaky
-high action the entire video is not effective
-use interesting/creative thoughts
-focus on good lighting, don't do inside if the lighting isn't good
-don't make the opening too complex, it's just the intro to the film

Summary

Overall, in order to have an effective movie opening, there are different aspects that should be focused on. Above all to create an effective opening, quality is the most important factor. Whether that be quality of lighting, quality of shots, or quality of ideas. You can definitely see when other Florida students did not take the proper time to plan out their films, or rushed to complete them. Knowing this, I can use this to help my team remember to focus on portraying our ideas in an efficient and thought-provoking manner. Furthermore, another important thing to remember is to not add too much action to an opening scene. Because it's just an opening, an entire plot line and film should not attempt to be forced into only a few minutes. Rather, the opening should entice viewers, but not give the entire movie away. This is another thing my group should keep in mind throughout the planning and production process of our film.
