Camera shots/angles
Voice-over- voices added over the video.
Simultaneity- two shots occuring at the same time.
Set- props and surroundings. Setting.
Establishing shot- long shot establishing mood and location.
Music- music added in the background or foreground.
Contrast- two shots that show a vast difference between one another.
Costume- shows who a character is, can display personality of historical period
Close shot- subject is shown from top of head to mid-waist.
Diegetic- naturally occuring sound that could reasonably be heard in shot.
Parallelism- shot where similarity or simultaneity exist.
Lighting- used to convey mood or time. Bright shots= happy, new, exciting. Dark shots= sadness, depression.
Boom shot- a shot following the action
Non-diegetic- unnatural sound unusual for shot.
Symbolism- shots edited to show symbolism or relation between a subject.
Staging- how the character’s stand and move. Can reveal a character’s personality or feelings.
Cameo shot- subject is filmed against a black/white background
Sound bridge- sound that begins in one shot and carries over to the next. Ex: scream→ train.
Leitmotiff- shots where a common theme remains throughout.

Choker- a tight close-up, usually only subject’s face.
Direct sound- original sound from shots.


Close up- shot of an isolated part of object or subject.



Cutaway- shot related to scene but briefly moves away.



Dolly shot- moving shot



Extreme close-up- magnified shot of object. ex:eye



Extreme long-shot- wide angle from great distance



Eye-level shot- subject shot at eye-level.



Flash- very brief shot



Full shot- long shot of subject’s entire body



Head-on shot- shot where action heads directly toward camera.



High-angle- shot from above subjects heads.



Long shot- subject is at a distant; shows surroundings.



Low-angle- camera is looked down upon.



Point-of-view- shot from characters POV



Reaction- shot showing character's reaction of action happening off camera.



Tight shot- subject fills entire frame.
