Angles and Shots to create Emotions
I chose to comment on Cooper and Miranda's posts. The two had different camera and angle styles and you can see that expressed in their different short clips.
Cooper's clips created an overall ominous and somewhat scary mood. Shifting camera angles, using high and low shots, and creating long shots with empty hallways as a background all contributed to establishing this emotion. Particularly, Cooper's long shot created such an emotion by the stark contrast between the subject and the background, a phenomenon also explained in the article, "Use of Long Shots in Film."
Miranda's posts established a very different emotion. Miranda's shots were much lighter and carefree, which contributed to a much happier emotion for the viewer. For example, the close-up on the subject where he laughs, with a bright light shining behind him, helps show what the subject is feeling and helps the viewer feel similar. This concept is explained in, "Different Camera Angles Create Different Emotions."
Both of my classmates used the same assignment to create different emotions, which is evident by the angles and shot each of them chose. For that reason, the assignment was a fun one, because through your work you had the opportunity to inflect your own personality and emotion into the shots.
